Vija Celmins @ SFMOMA

I had never heard of Vija Celmins before seeing her at SFMOMA. Her work is beautiful in its detail. I thought the waves were photographs before realizing they were charcoal drawings and paintings. The paintings of the night sky are amazing but the photos do them no justice. Especially love the 5′ turtle shell comb that is a reference to both Duchamp’s ready-mades and Magritte.
